Monreith Sands Holiday Park is a family-owned park nestled in one of Scotland's most beautiful and unspoilt coastal settings, in the small village of Monreith on the West Coast of Dumfries and Galloway. With static caravans just 300 yards from the beach overlooking the breathtaking expanse of Luce Bay, this is a rare opportunity to own a slice of the Scottish coast at an accessible price.
Owned and run by Mark and Kathrine Hoey and their family, Monreith Sands Holiday Park has been recently upgraded and reflects the family's vision of a park that sits in harmony with its stunning natural surroundings. With sea views, fresh coastal air and sandy beaches warmed by the Gulf Stream right on your doorstep, life here moves at a wonderfully different pace. Walk the beach at low tide, explore rock pools, watch sea birds and deer, or simply sit back and take in the remarkable sunsets over Luce Bay that the park is known for.
The coastline around Monreith is rich in history too. Neolithic stone circles, secluded coves and miles of quiet walking routes make it an endlessly rewarding place to spend time, whether you are visiting with family or looking for peaceful solitude.
The area surrounding Monreith Sands is packed with things to see and do. Golfers are particularly well catered for, with several excellent courses nearby. St Medan's Golf Course, the most southerly in Scotland, is a short distance from the park and features 9 holes played from 18 tees, with views stretching across Luce Bay towards the Isle of Man on a clear day. Wigtown and Bladnoch offer 9-hole courses known locally as the Wee Gems, whilst Wigtownshire County Golf Course near Glenluce is a traditional links course on the shores of Luce Bay. Further options include Portpatrick Dunskey with its clifftop setting and Creachmore in Stranraer, the last course designed by James Braid.
For fishing enthusiasts, the Machars of Galloway is widely regarded as one of Scotland's finest angling destinations. Luce Bay is the most popular sea fishing venue in Scotland, and the Rivers Bladnoch, Tarf and Cree all offer excellent game fishing for salmon, grilse, brown trout and sea trout. Licences for the River Cree can be obtained from the angling shop in Newton Stewart.
Other local highlights include the bronze otter statue overlooking Monreith, created in honour of author Gavin Maxwell; Monreith Animal World, where visitors can get up close to otters, alpacas and more; and the award-winning 7 Stanes mountain biking trails at Kirroughtree for those seeking a little more adventure.
The park operates on an 11.5-month season and closes for two weeks in February.
