The Tom Ambler Interview

Posted by Sell My Group in Insights into the UK Park Industry, January 30, 2023 Tom Ambler from Ramtech interview

We chat with Tom Ambler, Leisure Sales Manager at Ramtech Electronics Limited, to discuss the park industry, his role in it and what he likes to do when not working.

Hi Tom, tell me about Ramtech Electronics and your role?

Hi Justin, thanks for asking me to take part in this exciting series of interviews, I have enjoyed reading all your previous ones, so keep these great interviews up!

Ramtech Global are an innovative wireless solutions provider, we have been providing security solutions to the Holiday Park industry for over 30 years and that solution has taken us to over 32,000 installed devices across holiday parks in the UK.

Not only does our WISE security Hub protect assets, monitor and provide insight for occupancy data, it also helps parks generate a regular recurring revenue.

I have been with Ramtech since March 2021 and joined the company as National Leisure Sales Manager and I was brought in to look after our key customers and with over 20 years’ experience in the leisure Industry from both a park and manufacturing side a big focus of my role is on building relationships with new groups and parks, telling them all about the exciting technology we have got coming in the industry, such as our Connected Park Strategy which we are really excited about.

Of all the things in the industry, what is your favourite thing you like to do?

Without a doubt it would be meeting new people, attending shows and conferences, and sharing ideas with likeminded people in the industry.

Visiting amazing holiday parks across the UK never gets boring and I am lucky in my current role I get to travel all across the UK and as of this year, also Europe and the USA, so looking forward to seeing how they are looking to innovate things differently.

I have such a passion for the holiday park industry, and I remember hearing way back when I first started that once you get into the holiday park industry, it is really hard to leave it and if you do it usually pulls you back in!

Any predictions for the industry in the next 24 months and what are your plans?

I think I echo a lot of what your previous interviewees have said, these next 2 years will come with uncertainty, but the Leisure industry is very resilient and has seen tough times before.

A lot of parks and groups over the last couple of years have gone more rental and hire fleet as that’s where the market was, and I think that area will continue to maintain its popularity, it gained a lot of first-time holidaymakers over the past couple of years and let’s hope they continue to staycation at our amazing holiday parks.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you be doing?

It would still have to be something in sales or customer service, I really enjoy talking to people, helping, and advising them.

I got into the holiday park industry when I was 18, so it really is hard to think of another industry I would want to join.

What do you like to do when not working? Any hobbies?

Spending time with my family and friends, especially my 2 daughters, I spent too many years working weekends and not getting to enjoy that time, so now I can, that is the most important thing I do.

So Tom, which clients would you love to help?

We are lucky to deal with some great groups and independent family-owned holiday parks already and a number of these we have been working with for over 20 plus years, We do have a couple of other groups on our roadmap, as I said earlier, we are also looking to expand into Europe and North America, so that opens a lot of doors for more potential customers.

Who in our series would you like to be seen interviewed?

I would love to see an interview with the hardest working man in the leisure industry and the person who I have yet to find anyone who dislikes him …..Silvano Geranio!
