Local towns Congleton and Macclesfield are close by and have a lot to offer. The attractive spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire has a geothermal spring, with a constant temperature of 28 C, and hosts an annual opera and arts festival.
The historic Roman City of Chester, in the west of the county, is one of the best-preserved walled cities in Britain. It is also home to the famous Chester Zoo.
For a more cosmopolitan experience, Manchester, with its galleries, museums and restaurants is only an hour’s drive away.
There are numerous country houses and gardens to visit, many of which belong to the National Trust.
Outdoor enthusiasts can take part in a range of activities without having to travel far. The nearby Peak District is excellent for walking, climbing and mountain biking.
Redesmere Lake is a RYA affiliated centre for water sports including sailing, paddle boarding and power boats and welcomes beginners and experienced sailors. A wide range of training courses are available.
Eaton Golf Club is just down the road, welcomes visitors and offers a superb 18-hole course incorporating natural woodland, streams and varied terrain.
For those who prefer watching sport, the nearby M6 gives easy access to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester where some of the UK’s best sports teams have their stadia.
