The Jo Turner interview

Posted by Sell My Group in Insights into the UK Park Industry, February 17, 2022 Jo Turner from The World of Park & Leisure Home Shows

Justin Allitt chats with Jo Turner from The World of Park & Leisure Home Shows (Stoneleigh Show), to discuss the park industry, his role in it, and what she likes to do when not working.

Hi Jo, so the Stoneleigh Show is back, I’m excited –  what inspired you to set up the World of Park and Leisure Home Shows?

Pat (my husband) and I, have a background in Events. We have worked for many years on earlier versions of the Show and other events within the general Caravan world.  Way back just after the turn of the century when the industry was going through a tough period, we took the opportunity to establish The World of Park & Leisure Homes Show to both help the Industry showcase its products and also because, after having spoken with several Key players we could see the potential for growth in both the Industry in General and specifically our show.  Thankfully, our instinct proved right and the Stoneleigh Show has gone from strength to strength. The show is now the leading Outdoor dedicated park and leisure homes show in the UK.

What is the favourite thing about the Stoneleigh Show?

Our two favourite things about the Stoneleigh show are first, the People – what a fantastic bunch who work in the park and leisure industry! Although putting on a show is hard work, sharing the experience with so many characters has actually been a great pleasure. We look forward to the show each year.  Secondly, the actual homes.  After all these years working with the industry, and all the hundreds of homes we’ve seen.  We’re never disappointed in the new models, latest developments, and innovations.  It really is quite breathtaking.

How have you coped with running a business during the last turbulent 24 months?

Yes it has been difficult as it has been for just about everyone in the Events Industry.  But careful planning and the overall support we have had from the park and leisure industry has inspired us to keep going. Now we’re really looking forward to the Stoneleigh Show returning in June.

If you weren’t in the park industry, what would you do?

I’ve had a range of jobs before getting into this industry. However, it was promotional and marketing activities that I enjoyed most. So, probably something along those lines. Only, it’s very hard to imagine anything different as working in this Industry is so all-encompassing.

What do you like to do when not working?

For my sins I’ve followed in my husbands’ obsession for Spurs! But this has provided me with some fantastic travel opportunities across the UK and most of Europe.  Shame they don’t win more often!  Love the Cinema and really enjoy restaurants, café bars and socialising – Life’s too short.

Which clients would you love to help?

I don’t want to single out anyone in particular. I like to help all of our wonderful exhibitors and supporters at the Stoneleigh show where I can.

You’ve been in the industry now a long time, any words of advice to those starting out in the industry?

Keep true to yourself, prepare for long hours and remember that most of the people in this industry will try to help you if you try to help them.

Who would you love to exhibit at the Stoneleigh Show?

Any company that has something to offer to this amazing Industry! Or wants to benefit from the fantastic opportunity that exhibiting at The World of Park & Leisure Homes Show provides.
