Justin Allitt chats with Rhodri Taylor, Partner at Charted Tax Advisors, Zeal, to discuss the park industry, his role in it, and what he likes to do when not working.

Hi Rhodri, great to meet you at Stoneleigh. First question; What does your company do?

Zeal is a tax consultancy business that specialises in capital allowances tax relief. We are a mix of tax and surveying specialists, which makes us truly unique.

The business was founded in January 2017 by our MD Matt Jeffery. Zeal’s experts offer high value tax advice to our clientsWe are passionate about helping Park Owners claim back tax on the investment in their park and also obtain the most tax efficient structure for their business. Some of our clients include; Celtic Holiday Parks, Sandy Bay Holiday Park and Eden Valley Holiday Park in
Cornwall.

Important to note; We are NOT accountants and are not here to replace the work they do; in fact we work alongside them to offer our services to their clients.

What is your favourite thing you like to do at Zeal?

I get a kick out of building long term strategic partnerships that add value to owners of commercial properties. My approach is very personal. I help owners understand the service we offer, as its quite complicated, but most of all I ensure that they know how they can benefit. Above all its about being real with people.

How have you adapted during the last couple of years & how do you see the next couple of years?

As with any business, the last couple of years have been challenging but we have weathered the storm well. Video calling became very important to us. It enabled Zeal to continue helping our clients with a face to face service, albeit online.

Our client base was mainly the hospitality sector pre Covid. As many of these businesses were shut for extended periods of time, we had to switch our focus to other sectors, such as care facilities, property investors etc.

We have helped many caravan parks, touring parks, holiday let, hotels and B&B owners save tax already in 2022.

If you weren’t doing what you are doing, what would you do?

Travelling and helping communities as best as I can.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Spending time with my children, surfing, biking, and enjoying the outdoors.

Which clients do you love to help?

Our business is built on helping small businesses and independent property investors. We get a real buzz from helping these clients. A cash repayment of a thousand pound means a lot more to a small business than a million pound to a big business.

Tell me about future plans for Zeal?

This year has been really exciting. We were chosen by Sykes Cottages to be their partner for tax and capital allowances. We are already expanding the team to ensure we provide Sykes and their owners with the best possible service. We have many partnerships that will see our brand grow from strength to strength.
